    The Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday stated that they had arrested 340 individuals in reference to the violent protests that broke out in a number of components of the State in opposition to the Agnipath scheme for recruitment within the armed forces.

    The Police lodged 29 instances in 12 districts. Out of the 340 individuals arrested, 145 have been arrested underneath preventive measures (Section 151 of the Cr.PC). whereas 195 have been arrested underneath registered FIRs, stated police.

    Meanwhile, the protests continued in some districts, particularly in Jaunpur the place a number of autos have been broken by mobs of protesters.

    A State roadways bus was vandalised and two bikes set ablaze in Badlapur space of Jaunpur, whereas one other bus was set on hearth in Sikrara space, stated Ok. Satyanarayan, IG Varanasi.

    In Mathura, police arrested 43 individuals, 35 in Aligarh, 36 in Varanasi, 41 in Jaunpur, 20 in Mirzapur and 15 in Gautam Buddha Nagar.

    Under Cr.PC 151, police arrested 109 individuals in Ballia, the place protesters had additionally set a practice coach on hearth, and 27 in Mathura.
