As the Congress uncared for the Northeast for the final 60 years, the BJP-led authorities on the Centre needed to face challenges in accelerating the event of the area, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated on June 8.
Speaking to reporters on the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) in Itanagar, Mr. Sonowal stated that due to the event initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Northeast is marching forward to be on a par with different components of the nation.
“Congress never gave importance to Northeast in the last 60 years due to which the region remained neglected despite its huge potential. Because of this, we had to face lots of challenges in accelerating the development of the region,” stated Mr. Sonowal, the Union Minister of ports and Ayush.
“In the last eight years, connectivity in the region has developed manifold — be it road, air, railways or waterways,” he added.
The Centre has spent ₹2,63,000 crore within the final eight years for the event of the area, he stated. Mr. Sonowal stated good governance in Arunachal Pradesh was doable due to the anti-corruption initiatives taken by the Pema Khandu-led authorities.
