    Norovirus instances: Centre asks Kerala State Surveillance Office to submit report

    Amid two confirmed instances of the norovirus an infection reported amongst school-going youngsters at Vizhinjam within the State capital, the Union Health Ministry has requested the State Surveillance Office (SSO) to submit an in depth report concerning the matter, official sources stated on Monday.

    According to the official, the primary documented norovirus outbreak within the State was reported in Alappuzha district in June final yr. Around 950 instances of acute diarrhoeal ailments linked to norovirus had been reported in 2021 from the Alappuzha municipality and close by panchayats. The outbreak lasted for a month and a half.

    “Though the outbreak was rapidly spreading, the disease was self-limiting and over 92% of the patients required OPD care. The source of infection in Alappuzha was found to be contaminated water,” the official stated.

    “The SSO, Kerala, has been asked to submit a detailed report, which will be submitted shortly,” the official added.
