Residents blocked the Lalapettai – Walajah Main Road in Lalapet village close to Walajah in Ranipet on Monday, demanding that the traditional Shiva temple on Kanchanagiri Hills be taken over by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and correct work allocation be ensured for residents within the village underneath the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Police stated that it was round 11.30 a.m., when the villagers gathered on the stretch to take out a rally in direction of the Ranipet Collectorate, round three km, to handover the petition detailing their calls for to Collector D. Bhaskara Pandian. Based on an alert, a big police posse, led by Okay. Prabhu, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Ranipet), and income officers, together with S. Vinoth Kumar, RDO (Ranipet), arrived on the village to pacify the residents. “We want common maintenance of the hillock temple to be taken up, allowing residents from all villages to worship there. Auctioning of lakes and work allotment under MGNREGA scheme should also be rationalised,” stated L.Okay. Gokulan, president, Lalapettai village panchayat.
Inquiries revealed that historically, residents from Lalapettai and Mukundarayapuram, a neighbouring village, supplied worship at thetemple, positioned inside Mukundarayapuram village limits. However, the police stated they developed variations in conducting rituals and endeavor upkeep of the temple over the previous few years. As a consequence, Lalapettai residents have been demanding that the temple be taken over by the HR&CE division. In this regard, they’ve submitted a petition to the HR&CE Minister P.Okay. Sekarbabu early this month.
Improper work allocation for staff from Lalapettai village underneath MGNREGA scheme by the panchayat officers in Mukundarayapuram is one other challenge. At current, 900 ladies staff from Lalapettai had been employed for varied works in Mukundarayapuram underneath the scheme. However, they declare that correct work allotment has not been completed for them. Auctioning of current 4 lakes round these two villages and entry to burial floor in Mukundarayapuram for residents in Lalapettai are different points raised by the residents. “We have heard the grievances of Lalapettai residents. A peace meeting involving officials, residents of two villages will be held soon where all issues will be addressed,” Okay. Vinoth Kumar, RDO (Ranipet), informed The Hindu.
