Home Minister Amit Shah raised the case of 16 Indian sailors who’ve been detained in Nigeria for the final three months throughout a bilateral assembly together with his Nigerian counterpart on the sidelines of a counter-terrorism financing convention on Friday.
“We also discussed the Indian sailors who were apprehended recently. I want to assure that we respect India and tender respect to all Indians,” stated Nigerian Interior Minister Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, talking to reporters after the conclusion of the No Money for Terror convention on Saturday.
Norwegian oil provider MT Heroic Idun was detained by the Equatorial Guinea Navy on the occasion of their Nigerian counterparts on August 12. The vessel had on board 26 sailors, together with 16 from India, who’ve been detained since.
After the assembly, the Ministry of Home Affairs tweeted that the 2 Ministers “discussed several important issues including political, trade & commerce, defence, capacity building, development partnership, consular issues etc.”
The Nigerian Minister stated that talks are happening to carry the following NMFT convention in Nigeria, however added that he would solely be capable of say something conclusively after discussions with involved authorities again dwelling.
When requested about numerous Nigerians being concerned in drug trafficking, Mr. Aregbesola stated, “We regret any one of us involved in crime. My advice to India was that law should take its course. Due process and appropriate trial of whoever is caught in a criminal act in India must be undertaken and let them serve their term.” He added that the top of Nigeria’s drug enforcement company, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, would go to India quickly to debate methods to scale back the involvement of Nigerians in drug trafficking in India.
