    Congress calls for the annulment of textbook revision committee

    D.Okay. Shivakumar, president, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), has written to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai demanding him to ‘stop the unconstitutional attack on education’ within the State and instantly annul the textbook revision committee and restore the outdated textbooks. 

    In his letter, he lists out among the objectionable adjustments made within the new textbooks, together with enhancing classes on Basavanna, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, removing of classes by a number of progressive writers, projecting regionalism as anti-national and together with classes written by many these selling communalism. Curiously, the letter doesn’t point out the inclusion of a lesson by RSS founder Okay.B. Hedgewar, which was the primary flashpoint of the controversy. 

    “Several senior writers have withdrawn their texts from the textbooks and several other writers have resigned from government committees in protest against the textbook revision. I request you to take this on priority, annul the textbook revision committee and revert back to old textbooks,” he stated.

    Senior Congress chief Okay.R. Ramesh Kumar launched a press assertion on Tuesday, wherein he got here down on the character of textbook revision carried out by the Rohith Chakrathirtha-led committee. The academic {qualifications} of the chairperson of the committee itself are shrouded in thriller, he stated. “This is an attempt to poison young minds. Those behind this effort seem to have chosen young children to twist and rewrite history,” he stated.
