Filmmaker Gitanjali Rao is ready to be honoured with an award in the course of the seventy fifth version of the Locarno Film Festival, the organisers introduced on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old filmmaker will obtain the Locarno Kids Award la Mobiliare, the award devoted to personalities able to conveying the love of cinema to youthful viewers, in the course of the movie gala, which is held yearly in Locarno, Switzerland.
Rao can be introduced with the award throughout a ceremony on August 8 at Locarno’s Piazza Grande, adopted by the screening of her animated quick movie “Printed Rainbow”, the organisers stated in an announcement posted on the competition’s official web site.
The organisers stated Rao is named a director and animator whose works are “marking a new path for animated storytelling by poetically blending the artistic gesture of hand drawing with new technologies”.
Rao’s “Printed Rainbow” had famously gained three awards at Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and her debut characteristic “Bombay Rose” (2019) was the primary Indian animated movie ever chosen to open Venice Critics Week.
Her 2021 quick movie “Tomorrow My Love” had served because the opening movie for the 74th version of the Locarno Film Festival.
Giona A Nazzaro, creative director of the Locarno Film Festival, hailed Rao as “one of the most unique and original voices from the Indian continent in recent years”.
“To honour her with the Locarno Kids Awards la Mobiliare means rewarding the talent of an innovative and original artist whose work has come to the attention of audiences worldwide in just a few years, while celebrating the best in contemporary creativity,” he added.
The 2022 Locarno Film Festival will run from August 3 to 13 this 12 months.
