Coal India Ltd. has dedicated a capital funding of about ₹24,750 crore within the subsequent few years on as many as 61 first-mile connectivity (FMC) initiatives in a bid to spice up eco-friendly coal transportation.
In a press release, the world’s largest coal producer stated the initiatives, which shall be arrange in three phases, may have a mixed capability of 763.5 million tonnes every year on completion.
FMC initiatives contain the transportation of coal in mechanized piped conveyors from manufacturing factors to coal dealing with vegetation/silos with a fast loading system the place coal is loaded immediately into rail wagons.
“It is essential that coal transportation is environment-friendly to improve the quality of life of people living in the proximity of coalfield areas,” stated a senior CIL official. “FMC projects offer benefits like suppression of dust pollution and carbon emissions. They also reduce the load on road transportation leading to safety. Other benefits include precise quantity and quality coal is loaded for consumers with minimal manual intervention,” the official added.
As many as 35 FMC initiatives beneath the primary section having 414.5 million tonnes capability account for ₹10,750 crore. Of these, eight initiatives of 112 million tonnes capability are already operational.
Coal India is gearing as much as fee 17 extra initiatives of 178 million tonnes by present fiscal, it stated, including the remaining 10 comprising 124.5 million tonnes of capability are anticipated to be operative by FY 2025 (April 2024 to March 2025 fiscal 12 months).
“The second and third phase projects account for 9 and 17 respectively. While their respective evacuation capacities are 57 million tonnes and 292 million tonnes, the investments sequentially would be about ₹2,500 crore and ₹11,500 crore,” Coal India stated.
Under the second section, 5 initiatives of 21.5 million tonnes capability beneath development are anticipated to be commissioned by FY 2025. The remaining initiatives are in several levels of progress with tenders issued and bid doc beneath preparation.
For the third section, tenders have been floated for 3 initiatives of 65 million tonnes capability. Nine initiatives are to be executed via mine builders and operators. Phase three initiatives are anticipated to be commissioned by FY 2029.
Initially, CIL focused coal mines having a manufacturing capability of 4 million tonnes and above beneath the primary section.
After a pilot research carried out via NEERI on potential benefits of FMC initiatives mirrored sizable discount in CO2 emissions, air pollution, ambient noise ranges and important financial savings in diesel prices, CIL increasing the ambit included mines producing 2 million tonnes and above in subsequent two phases.
