Tata Group-owned Air India is contemplating shopping for greater than 200 new planes with 70 per cent of them being narrow-bodied plane, aviation trade sources stated on Sunday, June 19, 2022.
While Air India has zeroed in on Airbus’s A350 wide-bodied plane for the procurement, the talks with Airbus and Boeing for narrow-bodied plane continues to be on, they stated.
A large-bodied airplane like Airbus A350 has a much bigger gas tank that enables it to journey longer distances such because the India-US routes.
Air India has not purchased a single plane since 2006 when it positioned orders for buying 111 plane — 68 from the US-based plane producer Boeing and 43 from European plane producer Airbus.
The Tata Group took management of Air India on January 27 after efficiently successful the bid for the airline on October 8 final yr.
On the sidelines of 78th annual common assembly of International Air Transport Association, aviation trade sources stated Air India is contemplating shopping for 200 new planes. The share of narrow-bodied plane to that of wide-bodied planes will likely be 70:30.
They stated that the choice on which narrow-bodied airplane to purchase — to go for Airbus A320 household plane or Boeing’s 737Max plane — is but to be taken.
According to Air India’s web site, the airline has a complete of 49 wide-bodied plane — 18 Boeing B777, 4 Boeing B747 and 27 Boeing B787 — in its fleet. The provider has 79 narrow-bodied planes in its fleet too.
